The Tom & Maureen Fairlie Scholarship 
 






The scholarship will be awarded to a postgraduate student within the Moray House School of Education at the University of Edinburgh who is accepted on to a programme of study and who intends to teach, or develop his/her teaching of, mathematics or science-based subjects in secondary schools; or wishes to undertake research that contributes to the development or the effective teaching of the Scottish secondary school curriculum in the areas of mathematics or science-based subjects.

The value of the award is £1,000 per annum which will be paid at the start of the academic session towards maintenance costs and will be tenable for the duration of the postgraduate programme of study subject to satisfactory academic progress. 


Criteria 

The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit with candidates also requiring to demonstrate a genuine interest and commitment to either the teaching of, or development of, mathematics and science in secondary schools.

In addition, the selection panel will also take into account the financial circumstances of applicants to ensure that as far as possible a student's financial situation does not impede a university education at the University of Edinburgh.

The closing date for applications is 25 June 2010. All applications must be received by the Scholarships and Student Finance Office by that date to be considered for the bursary.


Selection Procedure 

A Selection Committee will meet in mid July 2010 to select the scholarship holder. The winner of the scholarship will be announced in late July 2010.
